Star Slinger does a lot of remixing, but I think this is the first time he's remixed his own song. Chain Dumbin unwinds the excellent forward thinking "Dumbin" into a slightly more straightforward, rap friendly beat. Juicy J and Project Pat are the rappers of choice here, and they both bring joyously ignorant verses.
Dumbed down? Perhaps, but still loads of fun. Stream the track below, and grab the free download if its still available.
Like any good remix, Low Sea keep the spirit of the original "Frequency" but alter the tone. It falls somewhere in between the lazy carelessness of the original and Uno's own sleek, but unnerving rework. An added sense of urgency purveys the mix, but its just enough make you want to dance, not just twitch.
These Wings has been streaming on the fader for a minute now, but tomorrow it finally comes out! To mark the occasion, Wise Blood is releasing a remix EP on facebook in exchange for a "like."
Pretty much all the takes here work pretty well, but the two stand outs by Hooray for Earth and Evan Voytas work as polar opposites. Each takes one half of Chris's conflicted nature: the wanna be saint, and the total party monster and amplify it to the logical extreme.
The original "You're A Animal" sounds like Japandroids covering some sort of unhinged Local Natives track. Its an absolutely perfect pump up song, if a bit one dimensional. The Fishing Remix takes the originals fury and channels it in a slightly different direction. Sounding like it soundtrack anything from the World Cup to 127 hours, the Fishing Remix manages to take the original's excessive energy and transfer some of it into a sort of world uniting catharsis.
The very rad dudes of Blackbird Blackbird and Old Arc are the creative force behind the UFolk digital label. They've been haunting variouscorners of the net for a few weeks now and today marks their first release. Sun Glitter's remix album features 17 remixes from chillwave's finest including Niva, Teendaze and of course Blackbird Blackbird. Comparisons with Seven Saturday's remix album are notable enough, right down to "the potential to make all the chillwave haters shut up for a few minutes."
If 17 tracks seems a bit intimidating, start with the Daniel Randall, Teen Daze, Niva and Papercutz remixes and dig in.
Sun Glitters has been on constant repeat for longer than most other artists this year, but for some reason I've never gotten around to posting his stuff. Better late than never I suppose, Sun Glitters recently remixed Niva's "Boy From the Sun." You can hear Niva repay the favor come Monday morning when Sunglitter's remix album is released on Ufolk. Sun Glitter's also tried his hand at remixing my favorite song of the year. Sun Glitters takes Purity Ring's Ungirthed, chops it up even further and replaces a bit of the original's joy with an ethereal pensiveness. With an original so incredible, its hard to see a reason for so many remixes, but if you somehow get tired of the original, we now have threeworthy alternates.
As far as Native Speaker remixes go, I'd say Teen Daze's Glass Deer still reigns supreme, but Silly Kisses' Plath Heart reinterpretation is a pretty close second. The remix was part of Kanine Records' record store day compilation, which you can stream on soundcloud.
Cults uploaded this swagged out version of their first single to their soundcloud a few hours ago. It's most definitely worth checking out, but I don't think it will be replacing the original for very many people. Even though I'm not totally sold on the remix, it is nice to see zonked out hip-hop influences becomeincreasinglyprevalent in more mainstream indie.

I've been jamming (actually I'm usually studying) to Seven Saturdays for a while now, but I just never got around to posting anything. The Sun Airway remix introduced me to the ambient-pop project, and the Memoryhouse remix has also been buzzing around the web for the past few weeks. Everything on this remix album is just a good as the first two singles and you could probably assume that just by looking at the lineup. Memoryhouse, Sun Airway, Teen Daze, Houses and Millionyoung are all Athid Favorites and none of them disappointed here. To be honest, it'd be quite the feat to disappoint with such beautiful source material, but its always nice to see some of your favorite artists together in the same place. All prior bias aside, newcomers White Sea manage to create perhaps the most triumphant remix of the bunch. An album like this has the potential to make all the chillwave haters shut up for a few minutes and just... chill :)
The album is only available to stream until next Tuesday, no word yet on a physical release.
Prepare yourselves for a little more Gobble Gobble in the physical realm. The good folks over at Debonton are releasing a Boring Horror 12" super single. Along with Boring Horror the vinyl includes two previously released Gobble Gobble tunes along with two new remixes.
Since they're all already floating around the internet anyways, I'll include the mp3s in the track listing. Download the mp3s and then buy that wax!! While you're at it make sure to catch Gobble Gobble on tour in a city near you.
If you're keeping track, Who Knows Who Cares is on pace to over come Wide Eyes for the Gorilla Manor song with the most alternate versions. Old Arc, who I posted about for the first time yesterday have a remix of Who Knows Who Cares thats pretty incredible, and my brother showed me this live version as well.
2011 has been a big year for syrupy hip-hop remixes of pop songs. The indomitable OFWGKTA leader Tyler the Creator is the latest MC to try his hand at it (to be fair, the middle section of Tyler's Bastard already sounded like a recreational dose of sizzurp). Tyler chooses Lykke Li's I Follow Rivers to drug up, which conveniently lands somewhere between Katy Perry and Dom.
UPDATE: In other Tyler/OFWGKTA news, Tyler released an incredibly creepy (and professional!) music video for a new song called Yonkers last night. Yonkers is our first glimpse into Goblin, the follow up album to his break-out Bastard. Yonkers is NOT for the faint of heart, but nah, its not Horrorcore.
Native Speaker is going to be on everyone's year end list in 11 months and Teen Daze is just consistently spectacular. Native Speaker is out on iTunes on the 18th, and a few weeks later on February 8th they'll be in Tallahassee at Club Downunder with Star Slinger and Baths.
Apparently after your song gets on p4k's playlist, things start moving! Not that Coma Cinema hasn't been moving for a long time, but I'm hoping Her Sinking Sun getting playlisted gives Mat a much deserved popularity boost. Pitchfork isn't the only place the track's been getting extra attention though, Teen Porn (abbreviated TP in the title because I don't really want people googling "Teen Porn" ending up on my blog) and Jaded Hipster Choir (Abbreviated JHC just because it sounds cool) have both remixed it.
Teen Porn includes Mat and Rachel from Kiss Kiss Fantastic. They only have 3 songs on their bandcamp. I'd tell you what I think of their music except that I can't think of anyway of describing that doesn't downplay how much I actually enjoy it. Just know that their bandcamp says their first single was relseased in 1969 and its listed under the genre Nihilism. Compared to their originals though, the Sinking Sun remix is less "emotionless sex jam" and more "post-zombie apocalypse club banger." Starts off with a music-box like melody(the kind that fascinates zombies) but when the beat falls in it's seriously trance inducing. I'd be swaying back and forth in my chair like a madman if my roommate weren't in the room at the moment.
While Teen Porn's remix doubles the length of the original, Jaded Hipster Choir clocks in just a few seconds shorter than the original. Of the three versions it I'd have to say its the happiest. I really love how this remix pulls the otherworldly backing vocals to the forefront; in the right light they sound a lot less ghostly... maybe even heavenly. Mat double tracks some harmonies on the original and JHC wisely only uses the higher of the two lines. Its oddly but pleasantly surprising to hear such a different mood for the song, especially when you consider that the only element added to the remix was the drum beat.
Its been more than 15 minutes since I last posted and I think I'm starting to shake a bit. Its been a pretty busy weekend (in an incredibly fun way) for me here in Tally so that kind of explains the lack of posts. There has not however been of lack of songs worth posting about so I'm going to round up just a few right now. Also, I'm planning on posting a playlist on Thursday instead of Tuesday for my buddy David's birfday.
I've never really gotten into jj for whatever reason but this one just hypnotizes me. I already love intro by xx and the vocals (as far as I can tell the only addition) add beautifully. If I hadn't heard the original song I wouldn't have know it was a sample.
This song is nice. And that doesn't discredit the song at all, its just really sweet and captivating. I played this one without headphones in a few days ago, and I've caught not only myself, but one of my roommates humming it quite a few times this week.
I'm not sure how old this one is but its new to me. I'm pretty far behind on these guys, but through my backtracking I'm just now realizing that Dead Gaze is one of my favorite bands this year!
Obligatory Coma Cinema remix. Just kidding though, its really incredible! One of my favorite tracks on Stone Alone. I really love intro and outro of the original, and the way this remix stretches out and adds to both in incredible ways. I also love how theres a syncopated rhythm before totally screwing with the original, reminds me a bit of something Fiveng would do.
Last but not least, Kanye's newest G.O.O.D Friday track Chain Heavy is one of my favorites from the series. It features a slightly more light hearted/humourous side of Kanye we haven't seen very much of lately. Its got a weird late night jazz lounge rhythm section and a thin little paranoid Synth on top. Great Line: "Why ya got all caps on? Don Cheadle time! get extra black on 'em"

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the dubstep/grime scene because I really don't, but I know enough to know that Joker is a pretty big deal. The Dubstep producer that pitchfork calls "the purple prince" recently remixed Gorillaz new totally 80s totally awesome single Doncamatic. Check out the original and the remix below
Delicious Scopitone is great. For starters, they share my love for Coma Cinema and Wise Blood(actually they might have started my love for Wise Blood, I can't really remember) plus I download probably 3 out of every 4 songs they upload. Not going to lie, they have better taste in music than I do, I mean really, if you had to chose between reading DS and reading this blog I'd tell you to chose DS any day of the week.
So anyways, I think all that lovin' justifies a repost from time to time! So here's a music video I saw on their site that I've listened to on repeat for about 20 minutes now.
The first time I heard this song I didn't really realize that it was a remix (or Edit I guess, from the sound of it all they did was slow it down and maybe take out some superfluous synth) and hearing the original afterwards was just kind of weird. Don't get me wrong though, the original is not too shabby itself!
