Animal Collective - Keep Cassette Tape

Some weeks you find music you aren't expecting, and other weeks you finally get to hear something you've been anticipating. Theres no doubt this past week has been incredible for the latter: A new Cults song, two new Fleet Foxes songs, two new Burial songs (I was hoping to find a stream without all the tags and chatter, and when I couldn't I just gave up.)

Its looking like that trend is moving into this week, as Animal Collective's cassette tape for KEEP has hit the web. These mp3s are ripped from youtube videos that were presumably ripped from cassette so they're anything but high quality. With no official digital release, its unlikely that higher quality mp3s are even out there (but if you find them, shoot me an email!)

Before this tape, I'd never heard a solo Geologist song, and his contribution is about what I was expecting. More of a sound scape than an actual song, its pretty but there isn't much melody. Panda Bear's track is typically incredible for Panda Bear, and with a little more polish it would fit right in with what we've heard from Tomboy so far. Avey Tare's is similar, sounding like a Down There B-side with less polish and unfortunately none of Avey's superb yelps. Deakin's track was the nicest surprise for me, bringing probably my favorite song to the collection. If it weren't stripped down to a single piano, percussion and vocals it would fit right in on MPP.

Panda Bear

Panda's finally decided to pop back up this month! In January we've seen a release date, a collaboration and now a music video for a song that probably won't be on the album.

The much anticipated Tomboy is now officially set for release on April 19th.

The Collaboration is with Ducktails and you can stream the song over at P4k.

The Skate video is below, and to my knowledge only the first song is Panda.

I think it might be my favorite of everything he's released since he announced Tomboy, but Alsatian Darn is definitely in the running.

Avey Tare - Lucky 1

Yeah I know I'm a day (real time, thats several weeks blog time) behind on this one, but Avey Tare's first single from his solo debut is available for download now! The reason for my lateness is mostly because I didn't think I was going to post this at all. I don't post anything if I don't like it even if it is from artists I really love/respect and at first Lucky 1 just seemed... really weird. Is that a saxophone or a synth? As it turns out though Lucky 1 is a lot like Small Black's recent single Photojournalist. The first time I heard it I couldn't get over the odd beat and instrumentation, but somewhere along the line the vocals just totally invaded my subconscious! In Lucky 1 its the first verse and the chorus of "were you crying?" over and over again that just won't stop floating through my head.

Animal Collective - Bluish/MPP music video extravaganza

Check out the new music video for Animal Collective's beautiful Bluish. The video is very... Blue! and very very cool. Kinda reminds me of their videos for My Girls and Summertime Clothes. Bluish is up now on their website or below. Since I've already mentioned 3 videos from MPP songs I might as well go all out!!
