Blonds - Kite (Acoustic)

Last Semester, as finals rapidly approached things got a bit hazy around here. I found myself constantly writing up quick drafts of blogs posts and never finding the time to actually publish them. This seems to be the case with Miami's indie pop duo Blonds. Their blown out retro pop, (specifically the ear worm Kites) was more than deserving of a write-up the first time through. Fortunately, this acoustic session refreshed my memory and I can finally rest easy. Watching the duo at their most playful, laid back on the beach is the happy antithesis to our not so pleasant January weather. Perfect timing, or at least better late than never!

I had the incredible pleasure of seeing Modern Man open for Coma Cinema a few months back. I just now realized I never posted anything and I am ashamed! Live they sounded like late 90s Radiohead filtered through surf-punk and stoner metal. This video has their front man creating something slightly different, but just as awe-inspiring. Modest Mouse play two new songs live

This past weekend, my favorite band in the world Modest Mouse headlined Sunday Night of Sasquatch. NPR streamed the concert and you can hear two new songs they played below. Lampshades on Fire shines brighter than Poison, landing in a middle ground between something funkier like Fly Trapped in a Jar and something more visceral like Whale Song. I'm not too worried about the sort of "meh" Poison though, these guys are production geniuses after all.

Foxes in Fiction - Bathurst (Live)

You've already seen Jon Casey capture the essence of Happy Trendy far better than my tinychat show possibly could have, and now he's doing the same with Foxes in Fiction. The footage was shot on the same tour, which had an almost unbelievably chill line-up (Foxes, Happy Trendy, Yohuna, Call before You Dig). This particular cut of Bathurst was shot in a parking garage after one of the venue's fell through the night of. At least half of my best internet friends were there to sing along.

Happy Trendy - Losing it (live)

When Dylan played "Losing It" during my tinychat show, I well... lost it. It was the first moment of the night where I actually forgot the whole thing was going on over the internet and I just listened to the music. Wise Blood- Losing my Mind (Live)

I don't really know how I slept on this for so long, but NYCtaper has the audio from Wise Blood's opening set for Wu Lyf at Glasslands last Friday night. If you didn't hear any of the post SXSW hype, I'll sum it up for you: Apparently he's an entirely different beast live. Straight up rapping/yelling replace the usual falsetto chants and live drums help add to the urgency. Wise Blood thrives on paradox, and his live show just adds another dimension. To be honest, its almost reminiscent of Nu Metal, but the divide between what we've heard from '+' and Laufman's live presence can keep even the largest skeptics fascinated.

Ha Ha Hospital (Live at the Farside)

This weekend I finally got to see Tallahassee mainstays and Mountain Goat disciples "Ha Ha Hospital" over at the always lovely Farside. Coincidentally, some one recorded and uploaded a few songs from the very same show! They write bite-sized pop numbers with an obviously witty sensibility. Its probably worth mentioning that it seemed like everyone at the show except for me knew all of the words. Definitely a charming duo worth checking out.

Coma Cinema - Come On Apathy

Its funny how so many memories can be packed into less than a minute and a half. I'm almost certain Come on Apathy is the song I've listened to the most in the past two years and it obviously sparked a pretty intense love affair with anything Mat Cothran creates. If that wasn't enough, it was also the first Delicious Scopitone post I noticed on Altered Zones. Both Altered Zones and Delicious Scoptione have irrevocably shaped my musical taste, and DS still stands as my favorite music blog of all time even after it shut down. I can't think of a single song that made me want to start a music blog as much as this one.
