DES A BODA - Neon Retainer

More delicious glitch-pop from Liam Hamilton aka Des A Boda. Neon Retainer doesn't spazz quite as hard as the phenomenal Ponytail, but it still gets the "time to dance" sensors in your brain firing, especially with that rad house piano. If you haven't heard Ponytail yet, check it out along with the rest of the incredible Ukranian Pearl EP on bandcamp. Neon Retainer is part of split EP with Mr. Miyagi's Ghost (who apparently has "nothing on the WWW you can follow), released on 4/20.

Purity Ring - Lofticries

Day-glo alchemists Purity Ring have finally released the B side to what I'd consider the most exciting single of the year. We've already heard the title track Ungirthed along with the Christian Aids and Deptford Goth remixes. The B-side is a more obvious flirtation with the "Post-Burial" tag certain websites have been throwing on to their sound. The hooks aren't as wormy, and the beat no longer bouyant. Instead Megan James is surrounded by a dark backbone with all the glitchy, dubby substance you could ask for.

The Ungirthed 7" is scheduled for release next week (April 18th) on Transparent. UK friends can buy the record here, and North Americans right here. Thanks p4k!

Greatest Hits - Fun Girls

I really don't want to talk about the future of chillwave, or how tired everyone seems to be getting of 80s revivalism. I think this conversation needs to happen soon because the genre as a whole is getting pretty stale, but I don't think it has to happen today. I'm just going to post this song because it makes me smile, and thats all music really has to do sometimes.

Altered Zones is the best you guys.

Cold Cave - The Great Pan in Dead

A highly compressed electronic sheen (reminiscent of Sleigh Bells) covers an essentially alternative or hardcore song. It sounds like something new I'd hear on my hometown's new-rock radio station and I'd actually enjoy. Although it really wasn't what I was expecting from a new Cold Cave single, I've been scarce on songs as delightfully urgent as The Great Pan lately. This one's been on repeat all weekend.

Police Academy 6 - Run

Police Academy 6 - RUN from Beard Wizard on Vimeo.

Just watched this vid on Get Off the Coast, and like that Patrick Wolf song, its pure joy. I'm just letting the good times/cheesiness run free today. I'll probably have to post some no-fi rager later today to make up for my loss of street cred.

Patrick Wolf - The City

I mean c'mon man, just LISTEN to that SAX!! This has to be some sort of over-exaggerated self aware joke right? Honestly, I've never really listened to Patrick Wolf, but I was always under the impression that he was some sort of dramatic prince of the goths. All I really know for sure is that this is the cheesiest song I've heard in a while, and that I can't stop jamming to it.

The equally cheesy/incredible music video premiered earlier today at the guardian.
