Orca Orca - Change of Pace / Get up Get Out

Orca Orca is the solo project of Boston native and pop-punk dreamer Jim Hewitt. His debut single (which you can download below for free!) straddles that fine line between breezy and lazy with surprising ease. The project is self classified as dream pop, and the texture is definitely there. I'm not so sure dream pop captures the whole picture though, as these songs stay snappy; bobbing and jumping where their peers just sway. Fans of Cloud Nothings or Unuomedude's more pensive moments will definitely approve.

Cheerlead - New Daze

There isn't much "new" going on in New Daze, but I've been whistling that horn line for about a week now. I can't entirely describe why I've been listening to this song as much as I have lately, but some melodies just grab you on first listen and won't let go. Songs this perfect for a lazy summer don't come around as often as they should.

Thanks to NMB for the original post!

Premiere: Ben Talmi - Greatest Need

Whether you're stricken by his prolificness (check out Art Decade if you dig his solo stuff), his unpredictability(this EP is 3/4ths compositions for string quartet!) or simply just his sound, I think its safe to assume Ben Talmi really loves making music. Throwing in classical instrumentation, cuddly Indie Rock influence and enough stately, electric melodies to make a RATATAT fan salivate, Greatest Need is what Age of Adz would have sounded like if Sufjan wasn't in such a rough spot when he wrote it. If this track can't get you to smile, well I can't imagine what can.

Greatest Need is the opening track on the "Constitution EP" slated for release on April 27th. Check out more of Ben's work on bandcamp.

That Ghost

I really can't remember when exactly "Never Have Fun" found its way on to my iPod, but I remember it being on a mix that didn't leave my car's CD player for several months. For whatever reason, I was never really interested in finding anything else by the artist (in other words I didn't know what Hype Machine was) so That Ghost was a complete mystery to me. Obviously, when you only have one or two songs from an artist its kind easy to forget about them. Fortunately, That Ghost re-entered my consciousness with the announcement of "Songs Out Here" about a month ago after a shamefully long break. If you're new to That Ghost grab the album's first two singles along with Never Have Fun.

Left and Right - Wild Eyed/Basement

So I've realized since I started blogging that I go through periods of wanting to write paragraphs on songs, and through periods where I'd rather just let you guys listen. Right now I'm leaning towards the latter... enjoy!
