James Drake

I can't think of many artists with sexier mash-up potential than James Blake and Drake (well I can think of one, but they're already taken). This retroactively inevitable, but still surprisingly inventive mixtape re-purposes more of the production from the original drake tracks than I was expecting, but that's certainly not a bad thing. Download the mixtape here or listen to my current favorite below.

Wise Blood - @F**kwiseblood

An ode to facebook and twitter dedicated to his facebook fans is pretty much exactly the kind of thing I've come to expect persona-expanding Wise Blood. @F**kWiseBlood has a dusty, old school hip-hop vibe that throws in some oboe and electric guitar. With a chorus that feels sleezy even if it really isn't and an opening salvo that begs for repeat listens, the track has definitely reinvigorated my excitement for this dude.

For better or worse, neither Penthouse Suites (the first Wise Blood song I wasn't digging enough to post) nor @F**kWiseblood will be on his upcoming EP for Dovecote.

The Weeknd

Pretty much everyone on the internet is going nuts for the Weeknd this week. The Weeknd is just the latest in a long string of artist that have been bringing R&B influences more credibility in the worlds of underground music. Even though I've enjoyed most of these artists, for some reason I felt immune to the hype. I've been too busy to check them out and for some reason I didn't think I'd like them before I'd even heard a note. I finally decided to check them out after a conversation with my roommate and a BNM from pitchfork, and man was I wrong. Anything I could say about the mixtape has probably already been said, so just go download it.
